Position Overview
The Application Engineer has the primary responsibility for providing advanced technical support and applications development for Eaton Wireless Mobile Machine Control products. The activities include developing machine control applications on embedded systems, providing products and applications support to front-line sales, system integrators, OEMs, service personnel, and clients; contributing to the business’ growth with new development programs, existing product enhancements and changes, and providing support for Engineered to Order (ETO) solutions.
The incumbent must be able to represent Eaton and work well with people at all levels of the clients’ organizations. Internally, the incumbent will work with Sales and Marketing, Customer Service, Engineering, Product Management and other Eaton teams as required.
In This Function You Will
- Work with clients to define requirements and implement custom applications through utilizing the tools and features available within the product portfolio.
- Provide direct support to sales and clients in the pre-sales, design, and application development phases of Engineered to Order (ETO) solutions.
- Author application manual and technical document for service and warranty support.
- Work with cross-functional teams in sales & marketing, R&D, manufacturing, service, operations, and the clients to deliver complete solutions.
- Perform other duties as required to achieve departmental and Business Unit objectives.
Qualifications
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/University Degree or College Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
- Min 3 to 5 years of engineering work experience.
- 3+ years of experience interfacing with clients and/or sales marketing teams.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous engineering project experience interfacing with clients to define requirements and implement custom applications.
- Strong passion to communicate/interface with clients daily demonstrating outstanding English verbal/written skills for presentations, email, and technical documentation purposes.
- Previous engineering experience with electronic control equipment especially in embedded systems.
- Proficiency in C (5+ years) and PLC programming (3+ years), including the development of libraries and functions specific to client applications.
- Ability to read/understand electronic schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Graphic design/layout experience (CorelDraw, Microsoft Publisher, GIMP, Adobe Illustrator, or similar).
- Self-starter, strong internal motivation/drive to complete each task in a timely manner.
- Strong multitasking skills, can handle the day to day with unexpected interruptions or last minute changes in task priorities.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, supporting a competing sales environment.
- Proficiency with engineering tools for design and software development, verification, debugging.
- Experience and knowledge with handling laboratory electrical equipment for test and debugging.

- Understanding of electronic design fundamentals.
- Analytical problem-solver capable of interfacing with clients.
- Ability to perform on-site troubleshooting and analysis of client problems and deploy solutions rapidly under pressure.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills, strong attention to detail.
- Ability to travel internationally (up to 10%), and frequently to Canada.
